Suzanne O’Brien, fiber artist Artist Statement Creating felt is meditative, physical labor, and a magical process in equal measures. The physical transformation of wool becoming felt under my fingers is what keeps me wet felting. My work focuses primarily in creating small finished fiber gifts and wearable art. Incorporating small pieces of art into our everyday enhances our mood and improves our quality of life. Creating with lots of color helps bring cheer and brightness and a sense of whimsy to my work. I choose my colors with my own intuitive process. My work often circles around floral themes, drawing from my college horticulture background, but I also enjoy creating large abstract felt as ‘yardage’ for my smaller creations. I include reclaimed, recycled and found items in my work whenever possible. Using reclaimed material adds depth, character, and individuality to every new piece.
