Fine Craft and Art Shows at Chautauqua July 11–13 & August 8 –10, 2025
Lampworking is a type of glasswork in which a torch is used to melt the glass. Once in a molten state, the glass is formed by shaping with tools and hand movements. Early lampworking was done in the flame of an oil lamp, with the artist blowing air into the flame through a pipe or using foot-powered bellows. Artist today, like myself, use torches. My torch is fueled by propane, and I have an oxygen concentrator for continuous oxygen. The technique hasn’t changed, the equipment has. This is how I make these glass beads which I make into my jewelry designs.
