Biomimetics or biomimicry is the imitation of the models, systems, and elements of nature for the purpose of solving complex human problems. Through my jewelry I explore methods of social construction, perception and inequality by alluding to undervalued fauna such as insects, bats, and snakes. Insects in particular are models of collective organization and work ethic. While creating jewelry that is inspired by their aesthetic, I also strive to mimic the praxis of these lifeforms as a reflection of their role in the ecosystem, and my role as an artist. All of my work is hand crafted using ethically sourced gold, silver and gemstones.
