My jewelry always starts with the gemstone. I do many drawings until I feel ready to start the piece, generally I do not make a prototypes because each piece in unique, My design sensibility is minimalist and modern but not sterile, with a very subtle nod to historical styles of jewelry. I like the construction to be visible. The settings are part of the overall design. Elements like the prongs, bezels, and rivets become as important as the stones or metals used. Hand-selected stones from the US, India, Sri Lanka, and South America are combined in unexpected and delightful compositions of size, color, and scale.
The process and techniques are traditional in nature; I make everything by hand. All settings are build from scratch, starting with gemstones I fabricate each piece from gold or silver plate and wire. Cast pieces are sculpted in wax to make a unique master. In addition, Jones works with talented lapidary who help him realize special stones for my pieces.
