Crafted in precious metals, the jewelry I make is designed to evoke a feeling of movement and a sense of balance without symmetry. I draw my inspiration from nature-especially the flow of water over stones-and from forms found in the ancient world. My background as a fine arts painter informs both my sense of composition and my use of negative space. The work is cast, hand forged, and fabricated, and I often use all three processes in a single piece. I like light and color, incorporating high-quality gemstones and more than one metal or color of gold in many of my pieces. The process begins by creating sketches and carving wax models for the different parts of each piece. These models are cast using the lost-wax technique. The many parts are then fused and soldered together using a torch. Stones are usually bezel or flush set, and surface textures are often added using a fine hammer, a sandblaster, and various burrs and other hand tools.
