My paintings are not planned, they evolve from a textured underpainting where I find features I want to enhance to create a composition. The result is usually something with a reference to a landscape, including hints of architectural as well as organic features. Compositions are often the product of many layers, even many paintings, with translucent layers revealing the previous images. The goal being to give them a dreamlike quality that will encourage the viewer to become engaged to find what might be hidden or not obvious at first glance.
