Peggy Quinn Clay Studio, began in 2020 in E. Springfield PA. I create functional yet decorative works in clay that are either wheel thrown or hand built, many with hand modeled additions and handles. Some of my jars are more decorative but all pieces are vessels that function in some way. My functional pieces may be created in a series of 3 to 20 pieces that are usually similar but not exactly the same. Unlike other art forms, functional potters believe that the user can be a part of the aesthetic equation when using a piece of pottery. Using permits the patron to become an active participant in the aesthetic process rather than a passive spectator. For my part, I hope use brings joy. I prefer to keep my forms simple yet elegant, many influenced by my love of Chinese pottery. I use hand painted and carved motifs often influenced from my rural surroundings for decorative purposes. My decorations enhance the form for an overall unifying design and glazes and underglazes are mixed by me.
