My creative process occurs in three stages, fieldcraft, camerawork, studio work. Each stage is pivotal to the success of the final result. My primary interest is the use of line, form, color, perspective, and composition; the content of the image subject is secondary. I want the final result to be an experience -- whether textural, emotional, or mysterious. My preference is to work close to my studio in places I know well and have looked at often, then I can feel most comfortable to set myself up to create (fieldcraft). I use a variety of photographic tools both vintage and contemporary to construct my images (camera work). Back in the studio I can evaluate the pictures and decide how to proceed. Sometimes I go forward with the visualized result I imagined while in the field. Other times I am spurred on to go in a direction I hadn't initially envisioned. Ultimately, the finished image is printed in my studio as a pigment ink print, or sent out for metal or canvas printing.
