Fine Craft Shows at Chautauqua July 7–9 & August 11–13, 2023
The materials used to design and create my jewelry are fine silver, sterling silver, polymer clay and semi precious stones. The polymer process begins with cane building, a technique similar to that used in millefiori glass but employing polymer clay instead of glass. I begin by planning the color palette and then I create a series of cane patterns using those colors. Thin slices of the canes are then applied to a form that I've shaped out of polymer. Other techniques used to create the polymer veneers are stenciling, alcohol inks and any other technique that I can devise. Fine silver is used to create leaves, twigs and organic forms to which I might add a patina to mimic the polymer colors. Bezel plates, closures and ear wires are fabricated with sterling silver. Each piece is one of a kind and created entirely by me, in my studio, without the help of assistants.
