Fine Craft and Art Shows at Chautauqua July 11–13 & August 8 –10, 2025
My work invites a tactile experience, celebrating the natural beauty of clay through contrast, depth, and the interplay of light and shadow. I work with natural stoneware clays, layering different bodies that vary in both color and texture to create a striking visual and tactile effect. My pieces are wheel-thrown and mid-fired with unique firing adjustments that maximize the dramatic color potential of the clay. I leave exterior surfaces unglazed to preserve the raw material and emphasize its organic variations. Carving is central to my process, from deep, flowing cuts that create movement to open sections that interact with light and shadow. My freeform vessels, shaped through a process influenced by glassblowing, capture a fluidity not often seen in ceramics. With nearly four decades of experience, I balance technical precision with spontaneity, allowing the material to guide each piece’s final form.
