My work is inspired by the daily Narratives of the Flora and Fauna of the surrounding Natural World. The Animals and Birds inhabit our Imagination, living on the edge of our knowing. They are a symbol of our own often forgotten animal character, and bring us back to the natural environment, reminding us to care for and respect the world around us. Most of my studio practice is in Sculpture, although I have produced Hand made tile for many years. The sculpture focus is on birds, and animals, wildlife. The work is additive sculptural earthenware that is hollowed and reassembled, it is fire multiple times in an oxidation environment, with hand painting using stains, engobes, glazes and underglazes. The Hand pressed and carved porcelain tilework also concentrates on the decorative imagery of animals and birds.
