Fine Craft Shows at Chautauqua July 11–13 & August 8 –10, 2025
I design and create one-of-a-kind shawls, wraps, tops, and other accessories by using a metal bed knitting machine. Similar to weaving, I begin by mixing and matching various fibers, choosing the type of stitch, along with embellishments, and visualizing a design pattern that evolves as I knit. Those with embellishments such as beads and sequins contain an average of a few hundred to a thousand or so per garment. All are individually hand-placed, at required rows and needles, to create the design as the piece is being knitted. I do not use pre-strung beads. Once the machine work is completed, finishing is all done by hand.
