My work in clay explores storytelling, whimsy, and expressive hand-built form. I create sculptural, thematic footed bowls and animal figures that blur the line between function and sculpture, inviting curiosity, humor, and connection. The footed bowls are sculpted rather than thrown, allowing playful experimentation with proportion, texture, and narrative. Feet become personality elements, transforming each vessel into a beloved character. My sculpted animals are hand-built, with some fired in an electric kiln and others raku or wood fired. Many of these pieces embrace the unpredictability of the process. Crackle glazes, carbon markings, and flashes of color emerge through firing, ensuring that each piece is unique. Fire becomes a collaborator, adding energy and spontaneity beyond my control. Overall, my work reflects a belief that art should be approachable and joyful—objects that tell a story, spark a smile, and honor the beautifully imperfect nature of clay.
