I work with natural fibers and fabrics to create mixed media textile wall art. My new wet felted work combines a colorful wool base with dimensional additions made with steel wire, natural dyed silk and wax. My encaustic textile collages start with vintage cotton, linen and lace that I source from antique shops. I paint the fabrics, cut, collage and stitch the composition. I brush on molten encaustic wax. When it cools I carve into the wax and rub in oil paint to enhance the texture and details. (sgraffito) Finishing touches are added with steel or copper wire and hand embroidery. Some works are not waxed and instead presented under glass.
