I love creating custom pieces using sustainable resources – local wood from fallen trees or wood from olive farms in Provence that would have been discarded otherwise. Milling and drying logs in NY has allowed me to expand my capabilities and forced me to think outside my comfort zone. It has also taught me much more about the characteristics of various wood species, and given me a new consciousness of how precious our resources are. I try to use every single piece of wood I cut. Even the smallest cutoffs can be flattened and glued together to create “chaos” pieces. Ornaments, bowls, knife handles… I’m always excited and surprised when the little bits from a larger creation can reunite to make smaller but sometimes even more beautiful works of art.
