I’m interested in how the use of imagery and pattern can connect a person to a piece of pottery. While designing my work, I look to home décor themes; Eclectic, Bohemian, Mid-century and Contemporary styles to help inform my ideas about making pottery for the home. I've chosen to throw with dark-brown stoneware because it’s equally rich with or without glaze, allowing me to create pattern in unglazed areas. Using glaze resist techniques, I create layers of color and pattern on each surface. I'm partial to botanical and geometric patterns, bare clay, white, and muted jewel tone glazes. I often integrate these design essentials into my work. A piece is successful when the glaze fluctuates effortlessly throughout the form. Everything is functional, food safe and fired to cone 5 in an oxidation kiln.
