Fiber Art by Erin offers needle-felted, three-dimensional wool sculptures of plants and animals. Needle-felting is a process in which wool is stabbed by hand with specialized needles until it packs tightly, tangling with itself and allowing for the sculpting of solid shapes. Differently colored wools are applied by the same process to complete the pieces with facial and surface details. Erin gleans inspiration for her work from her lifelong interest in the natural world as well as fairytales and myths. For example, while working on her line of constellation animals, Erin consults textbooks on animal anatomy alongside astronomical guides to add realism as well as cosmic significance to her forms. Wool is the natural material of choice for her work due to the softness and character it lends to her pieces.
