Fine Craft Shows at Chautauqua July 11–13 & August 8 –10, 2025
Creating one of a kind art work out of naturally diverse material is just one aspect of wood turning in which a cycle begins. To manipulate the natural curves and defects of the tree into a balanced form of function and beauty is a rewarding experience. Searching for and preparing the wood, for the lathe, is as important to me as applying that last finishing detail. The finish is brushed on with a high gloss varnish until I am satisfied with the look. Each piece has its own character that is revealed as I work through the outer layers to highlight the heart of the wood. It is important, for me; to know where the wood comes from, so I can relay its story. It is a joy to tell that story through my pieces. When I share the story with others, and awaken their sense of appreciation of my craft, it completes the cycle.
