Fine Craft Shows at Chautauqua July 12–14 & August 9–11, 2024
I combine glass, sterling silver, and gemstones to create my narrative. I begin my process by coldworking a solid block of glass into my desired shape. Coldworking is the process of shaping glass by cutting, grinding, and sanding without the use of heat from a torch or kiln. I then use a centuries-old Bohemian technique of engraving the surface of the glass with stone and diamond wheels. I polish specific parts of the surface to reveal light, shadows, and reflection. Once I construct the sterling components, I carve back into the glass so all of my elements are completely integrated into my designs. I strive to subtly imitate texture and movement, which creates a unique vision and experience of nature within each piece.
