I like to work with fine, “exotic” threads, such as silk, bamboo, Linen, lyocell, and even yarn made from recycled pop bottles! I weave these threads on a solid cherry 12-harness loom. Weaving is a very personal, and sometimes spiritual, experience for me. I particularly love working with color and old weaving patterns to create modern accessories for women and men. Every scarf I weave is different. On some scarves, I hand-paint the warp with dye and then weave them in patterns that allow the colors to shine through. It is important to me that the pieces look different from different angles. This brings an aliveness to the scarf, as well as to the process of creating the scarf. Finally, I finish each piece with hand hemstitching, and braided or twisted fringe, sometimes adding beaded embellishments as well. This gives a polished and elegant look to each piece of wearable art.
